Fairy Fest 2014 – Cottingley, August 16th

Fairy Fest 2014 Cottingley

Fairy Fest Cottingley

Fairy Fest Cottingley

Fairy Fest was started by myself (Freyja Faery) 4 years ago, in Holden Park, Oakworth to raise funds for the park and to give the families of West Yorkshire a day where you can take your children and it not cost you the earth, so it was important that the activity was free but for a small donation towards the cause.

I always said that:

Children should remain innocent for as long as possible and belief in fairies is all part of that.

Fairy Fest Success

I was astounded the event exploded all over the internet, not only did I receive a huge response from the general public travelling from all over the UK to attend the little fund raising event, they traveled from as far as Devon and Scotland but also entertainers came from far and wide to perform for the huge crowds that gathered in the park, as well as stall holders selling magical and mystical fairy related merchandise. All dressed up and decorated stalls as well as all the community coming together to help me decorate the park for the fairy invasion.

Last year Oakworth had approximately 5000 visitors to Fairy Fest which the park itself struggled to accommodate so this year we decided that Fairy Fest should move to a more suitable and disabled/ push chair friendly site, and what better than the home of the legend itself Cottingley.

Home of the fairytale, the famous pictures where taken by the Beck 5 mins from where Fairy Fest is taking place and 2 mins away from the famous Cottingley Oval (as seen on TV), which was designed in memory to the Cottingley Fairies and all the flowers that are planted there, legend has it that they attract the fairies.

We are decorating the recreational park in Cottingley Centre with 4 themes, Mushroom circle, Fairyland, Dragons Lair and Steam Punk Fairies, made by local artists, children from pre-school and children who live in Cottingley.

This years entertainment will include : North Wind Tribal belly dancing fairies, Ben Blue Waters, Haworth Ukulele Group (HUG), Freestyle Fanatics, Circus skills and hoop workshops, Fairy Dog Show, storytelling with Olde Fool, Angel Fairy and Freyja Faery and a fire show finale featuring Freyja Fire Sprite, Spencer the Goblin, Magic Jim and Parsley Flashheart

Our famous Fairy Market has exhibitors travelling from all over the UK as well as local artists / craftsmen, including Artwork from the acclaimed artist Boy so Blue arts (which he states that the Cottingley Fairies have been an inspiration). Something for all the family from Tarot readings from a real Gypsy wagon to Goth / alternative clothing from Whitby as well as dollies and treats for the little ones.

Fairy Fest is to be held on Cottingley Recreational Grounds, Cottingley Centre (follow the fairies from Manor Road), 16th Aug 2014 , 12-6pm.

Free admission with donations being taken for Cottingley Community Association (CCA) and the upkeep of our fairy gardens.

Hope to see you there , from Freyja Faery (the real Cottingley Fairy, as seen on TV)
