Wednesday 22nd October
Eldwick Memorial Hall @ 7pm
A petition for a new Bingley Council and five neighbouring communities is to be launched at a series of public meetings in October 2014.
The events are organised by Bingley Community Council Group (BCCG), an organisation of local volunteers campaigning for a new Town Council covering Bingley, Cottingley, Crossflatts, Eldwick, Gilstead and Micklethwaite.
The petition must be signed by 10% of the 18427 electorate which would be covered by the new council. Once the required number is reached, the petition will be presented to City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council. It must then carry out a consultation process, known as a Community Governance Review, to decide whether or not the local Bingley council can be established. The final decision rests with Bradford Council.
The campaign by Bingley Community Council Group is supported by a £10,000 grant from the New Councils’ Programme run by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) and funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government.
The meeting will take place tonight at 7pm at the Eldwick Memorial Hall.
All are welcome to attend, and any questions about the Bingley Council are welcome too.
The petition for a new Town Council can now be signed at various locations across Bingley, Cottingley, Crossflatts, Eldwick and Gilstead. The list of locations is available on the Bingley Community Council Group website. Bradford Council won’t accept an e-petition (although Bingley Council Group is working on this) so it’s back to pen and paper. Please get to a petition and sign it!
Any groups or organisations in Bingley, Cottingley, Crossflatts, Eldwick, Gilstead and Micklethwaite wanting to know more about the proposal for a Bingley Council are invited to get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org
