‘appen it’s Yorkshire Day

August 1, 2014 By Bingley Hub Leave a Comment

Aye up…

You wanna know about Yorkshire Day then?

Well, it’s a celebration of Gods own County… The largest County in the United Kingdom with a population of around 5.5 million and most Yorkshire folk would say it’s the greenest most beautiful part of the UK.

Yorkshire Day is a day to be proud of our great County, maybe don your Flat Cap and tek ya Whippet down park.

Yorkshire Day Flag

Yorkshire Day Flag

First celebrated in 1975 by the Yorkshire Ridings Society as a protest to local government re-organisation, they still lead an annual walk in York . After carrying the Yorkshire flag around the Bar Walls of York they read the The Yorkshire Declaration of Integrity at the 4 Bars. (Gate) starting at Micklegate Bar (West Riding), followed by Bootham Bar (North Riding) Monk Bar (City) and Walmgate Bar (East Riding).

Yorkshire Day can be whatever you want really, a day to celebrate your Yorkshireness or maybe take the family out to your favourite spot in the Yorkshire Dales. Drink Yorkshire Tea and talk funny all day like these lot at Yorkshire Airlines:

To be honest, there’s not that much going on really which is a shame…

Surely we should be holding a great Yorkshire Festival this weekend. We did have the first ever Yorkshire Festival this year (2014) to coincide with Yorkshire’s Grand Départ of the Tour de France, maybe this could be a regular annual event to celebrate Yorkshire Day. See Yorkshire Festival

So, how will you be celebrating your Yorkshireness this Yorkshire Day?

See events listed on the fabulous Welcome to Yorkshire website

Whatever you do, av a grand day.

Yorkshire Declaration of Integrity

Your attention please:

I, (reader’s name) being a (native of) and resident in the East/North/West Riding of Yorkshire

(City of York if within the walls) declare:

  • that Yorkshire is three Ridings and the City of York with these boundaries of one thousand, one hundred and thirty nine years standing;
  • that the address of all places in these Ridings is YORKSHIRE;

  • that all persons born therein or resident therein and loyal to the Ridings are Yorkshire men and women;

  • that any person or corporate body which deliberately ignores or denies the aforementioned shall forfeit all claim to Yorkshire status.

                       These declarations made this Yorkshire Day 2014

                        YORKSHIRE FOREVER!

                        GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!
